Tours of Sicily: Erupting with Gourmet Experiences
Have you ever dreamed of visiting a vineyard in Italy? Imagine sitting in the sun, glass of DOC red in your hand and an antipasto plate in front of you that would satisfy even a Gladiator. Then imagine that the vineyard is on the slopes of an active volcano. That’s what guests of our Amalfi Coast and Sicily Tour get to experience – times two!
On our personalized small-group tours of Sicily, Rome and the Amalfi Coast, you’ll get to visit two vineyards for private wine-tasting lunches. The first is on the slopes of Mt.Vesuvius (yes, the very same Vesuvius that wiped out Pompeii in 79AD). Not only does this vineyard serve possibly the best homemade spaghetti con pomodori I’ve ever had, but its DOC reds and whites include the famous Lacryma Christi varietal.
The second vineyard, owned by a baron, is at the base of Mt. Etna, an active volcano in the eastern part of Sicily. This area has become one of Italy’s most exciting wine regions in the past 20 years or so. You’ll enjoy six wines and an amazing antipasto garnished with the winery’s own olive and pepper tapenades and olive oil. This visit follows an exhilarating visit to the almost-top of the volcano, where you can feel the volcanic soil between your fingers and marvel at how the hardy Sicilians continue to thrive on the slopes of this ever-active volcano.
Sure, you can visit other wineries in other places, but where else than on our tours of Sicily can you enjoy the unique wine-tasting experience slopeside of a volcano?
