Switzerland Tour – Day 1: Zurich
All eleven of us arrived on schedule in Zurich, Switzerland and spent our first night at the Claridge Hotel, a lovely family run Swiss hotel with plenty of charm.
Our Swiss guide, Miranda, led us on an outstanding walking tour through the loveliest streets in both the old and new towns. Who ever knew Zurich could be so charming and lively and delightful? Lots and lots of young people and families, out strolling because it’s Saturday, drinking beer in the warm afternoon sun, shopping, riding bicycles, listening to music, enjoying the end of summer.
All the Swiss people I met really seemed to love their city, and no wonder. With the beautiful River Limmatt merging into Zurich Lake (Zurichsee), the wide boardwalk with cafés and shops and a merry-go-round here and there, and beautiful old buildings….church bells ringing every hour and three beautiful brides….and you’ve heard about clean streets, right? Not a speck of trash to be found.
We all got to know each other over a gourmet dinner of salad with duck breast, steak, local Swiss wine, and chestnut and chocolate dessert. Then we all slept very soundly in hopes of washing away the last of our jet lag.
